Hamden, Conn., native Mark Mentone was named Felician College's
first full-time sports information director in August 2006. He is
the media contact for Felician's 10-sport Division II athletic
program.
Since coming to Felician, Mentone has instituted an e-mail
distribution list and game programs for every home event, and has
given the Golden Falcons their first social media presence. He is
responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of
FelicianAthletics.com, as well as all department statistics and
records.
In the summer of 2012, Mentone was named the chair of Felician's
Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, as well as the vice chair of the
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sports information
directors council.
Mentone has been an athletic communications professional for 16
years. From 2000 to 2005, he was the coordinator of sports
information services at New Jersey Institute of Technology in
Newark. While working at NJIT, he served four seasons as the
part-time information director for the CACC. For his work in both
positions, he won a regional Grant Burger Media Award from the
American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2004-05.
He has also served two stints as an assistant SID at Southern
Connecticut State University, where he was the principal media
contact for the Owls' back-to-back Division II national
championships in men’s soccer in 1998 and 1999. He began his
career as an intern at Hartwick College for the 1996-97 academic
year.
Mentone owns a BS in mathematics from Trinity (Conn.) College
(1996) and an MS in journalism from Quinnipiac University (2010).
He spent 12 years as a high school baseball umpire. As a teenager,
he was a 22-time champion on the Junior Bowlers Tour. He resides in
Belleville.
