RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College senior Jay Collazo (Wall, N.J./Manasquan) was chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball co-Player of the Week for the period ending Apr. 27, the CACC announced on Monday. Furthermore, Felician junior Jerry Vasto (Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Henry Hudson Regional) won his second consecutive CACC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week award.
Collazo, a 6-foot, 190-pound outfielder/catcher, batted .462 with six runs scored and 10 runs batted in during a 5-2 week for the Golden Falcons. He posted a .533 on-base percentage and added four doubles and a triple for a slugging percentage of .692. He went 10 for 17 (.588) at the plate as Felician won all four of its CACC games on the week.
In 41 games this season, Collazo is batting .301 with 23 runs scored, 24 RBI and a .406 on-base percentage. After beginning his scholastic career at Wall Township High, he graduated from Manasquan High in 2009. He transferred to Felician from East Stroudsburg University in the fall of 2011.
Collazo is the third Golden Falcon to be named CACC Player of the Week this season. Sophomore first-baseman Scott De Jong (North Haledon, N.J./Eastern Christian) was honored on Mar. 10, and senior shortstop Aaron Brill (West Palm Beach, Fla./John I. Leonard) is a two-time selection. Collazo shared this week's award with junior outfielder John Kennedy of Nyack College.
Vasto earned a win and a save in two appearances. He started and worked seven scoreless innings, striking out a career-high 11 batters, in an Apr. 23 home win over Caldwell College. Three days later, he picked up his first career save with a perfect ninth inning against the University of the Sciences. For the week, he gave up one hit, fanned 13 and walked three in eight frames, extending his scoreless inning streak to 17.
Vasto has appeared in 12 games this season, starting nine. He is 5-2 with an earned-run average of 1.59. In 56 2/3 innings, he has yielded 42 hits, struck out 61 batters, and walked 25. He ranks second in the CACC in both ERA and strikeouts. Vasto is a 2010 graduate of Henry Hudson Regional of Highlands.

Felician (24-17, 15-5 CACC), guided by 11th-year head coach Chris Langan of Hazlet, is ranked No. 9 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region writers poll. The Golden Falcons have locked up second place in the CACC and a bye into the four-team, double-elimination main draw of the conference playoffs. Felician next completes this afternoon, when it travels to LIU Post for a 3 p.m. tilt.
