NYACK, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Kenny Monfort (Spring Valley, N.Y.) broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 51st minute and Felician University went on to a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over host Nyack College on Tuesday afternoon at Moseley Field.

Felician freshman forward Carlo Gonzalez (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) came off the bench to record a goal and an assist. Monfort scored a goal for the third consecutive match.

The sides nearly evenly split the game's 39 shots, with the Warriors (1-14-1, 0-10-1 CACC) holding a 20-19 advantage. However, Golden Falcon junior goalkeeper Joe Sartori (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) made a career-high 11 saves.

The hosts got off to a fast start. Nyack sophomore Mitchell Reed (Toms River, N.J.) buried a shot into the top right corner of the net with just two minutes, 12 seconds, gone by in the contest. It was the first attempt of the game for either team.

Gonzalez pulled Felician even in the 37th minute. He pounced on a loose ball and beat Nyack keeper Alvaro Magel (Hamburg, Germany) 1 v. 1. The 1-1 score held into halftime.

With fewer than six minutes gone by in period two, a pass by Gonzalez led Monfort past Magel, and Monfort simply needed to finish into an empty net to put the Golden Falcons (4-10-1, 4-7) ahead for good. Sartori made six saves in the time that remained to preserve the victory.

Magel was credited with eight saves. Felician senior Gabe Viana (Lyndhurst, N.J.) led all players with six shots, while Reed attempted five for the Warriors.

Felician concludes its 2018 campaign with a make-up game against Post University on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
