NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Felician College junior Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2014, as announced today by CACC Commissioner Daniel Mara.
A tri-captain and third-baseman for the Golden Falcon softball team, Parker enjoyed a strong April from the plate. She hit .436 for the month with nine runs scored and 12 runs batted in while amassing a .522 on-base percentage. The native of Surey, British Columbia, finished the 2014 campaign ranked fifth in the league with her .475 on-base percentage and seventh in the conference in walks with 19.
Parker has been a consistent contributor in the middle of the Felician lineup with a career .379 batting average through three years, and her 142 career hits are already amongst the school's all-time top-five. She owns the Golden Falcons' single season records for hits (59) and doubles with 16, both set in 2013 when she was named to the CACC All-Conference Second Team.
The business administration major is currently carrying a 3.72 grade point average and is a 2013 Capital One Academic All-District and CACC All-Academic selection as well as a two-time Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar. Parker is a two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete and a newly-inducted member of the Felician chapter of the Sigma Beta Delta business honor society.
Off the field, Parker is a volunteer softball instructor at youth clinics during her summers at home in Canada and during the Fall in northern New Jersey. She is a member of the Golden Falcon Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is very active in the institution's Make-A-Wish Foundation and Kay Yow Cancer Fund fundraisers. Parker participated in the "Walk for Wishes" for the northern New Jersey Make-A-Wish chapter. In the athletic department, she is a valuable member of the sports information student staff working in both the office and gameday environments.
The CACC Student Athlete of the Month is awarded from September through May to select student-athletes who excel in athletics, the classroom and the community. Parker is the eighth student-athlete from Felician to claim the honor in the four years the CACC has awarded it.
The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference is an NCAA Division II Conference composed of 14 institutions in Connecticut Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The member institutions are Bloomfield College, Caldwell College, Chestnut Hill College, Concordia (N.Y.) College, Dominican (N.Y.) College, Felician College, Georgian Court University, Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family University, Nyack College, Philadelphia University, Post University, and University of the Sciences and Wilmington University.
