RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Dr. Anne M. Prisco, president of Felician College, will honor two groups who have brought distinction to the College through athletics on Saturday, September 20, during Felician's Homecoming and Family Weekend.
"FalconFest" will run from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday on the quadrangle of Felician's Rutherford Campus. At 1:30 p.m., Dr. Prisco will deliver the President's Welcome. She will then publicly recognize the four softball-playing Van Dyke sisters of West Milford and the 2014 baseball team.
Holly (Van Dyke) Stanley '07, Heather (Van Dyke) Goethe '09, Hope (Van Dyke) Schoer '11 and Halei Van Dyke '15 were all softball standouts at West Milford High School before enrolling at Felician. The four sisters all were four-year starters for the Golden Falcons, all served as team captains, and all majored in teacher education with cumulative grade-point averages of at least 3.80.
Holly, Hope and Halei all played second base, meaning that a member of their family was the second-base starter for Felician for the last 12 consecutive years. Heather was a catcher and is the program's all-time leader in base hits. In summer 2014, the quartet was featured in the national NCAA publication, Champion Magazine.
The 2014 Felician baseball team, guided by 11th-year head coach Chris Langan of Hazlet, won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) championship and made the program's first appearance in the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament. With an overall record of 30-20, the team set school records for wins and winning percentage (.600).
The Golden Falcons saw a school-record nine players earn all-CACC recognition. Two team members, Scott De Jong (North Haledon, N.J./Eastern Christian) and Jerry Vasto (Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Henry Hudson) were selected in the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Langan was voted the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Division II/III Coach of the Year.
Felician's 2014 Homecoming and Family Weekend will commence with the Second Annual Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at The Fiesta in Wood-Ridge. Questions about the Hall of Fame should be directed to Mark Mentone, MentoneM@felician.edu or (201) 559-3333.
