RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College seniors Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) and Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) have been named the 2014-15 Felician Female and Male Senior Student-Athletes of the Year. Both were honored at the athletics department's annual senior banquet on Sunday night at the Goya Dining Hall in Lodi.
The Felician Senior Student-Athletes of the Year are the female and male graduating athletes who, as selected by department administrators, best represent the mission statement of Golden Falcon athletics. Academic performance, athletic contribution, citizenship and leadership both inside and outside of athletics are among the selection criteria.
Parker, a third-baseman for the softball team, will graduate as Felician's all-time leader in base hits, with 180. Her 59 hits and 16 doubles in 2013 remain single-season program records. This season, she started all 41 games, and batted .317 with two home runs, 20 runs scored, and 31 runs batted in.
Parker is the secretary of Felician's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In her sophomore season of 2013, she was named to the on-field All-CACC Second Team and the Capital One Academic All-District Team. She is a three-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete and a three-time Academic All-CACC Honoree. Parker was the CACC's Student-Athlete of the Month in April 2014, and Felician's 2015 "Woman of the Year" honoree by the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. A member of the Sigma Beta Delta business honor society and the Chi Alpha Sigma college athlete honor society, Parker owns a 3.68 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in business administration. She is a 2011 graduate of Semiahmoo Secondary School.
Facendo is the second consecutive baseball player to earn the honor, following Joe Petosa in 2014. A right-handed pitcher, he appeared in 14 games this season, posting a 3-1 record and team-bests of four saves and an earned-run average of 2.08. In 21 2/3 innings, he allowed 18 hits for an opponent batting average of .234.
Facendo finished his career with a record of 12-7, a 2.99 ERA, and a school-record 15 saves. He ranks in the top ten all-time at Felician in wins and strikeouts (133). A two-time All-CACC performer, he is a volunteer coach and umpire with the Hazlet Youth Athletic League. Facendo is majoring in business administration with a GPA of 3.03. He is a 2011 graduate of Raritan High.
Felician President Dr. Anne M. Prisco and the athletics department also honored their 47 senior student-athletes across their 12 intercollegiate NCAA Division II sports at Sunday night's banquet.
