MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y.) pitched a two-hitter and fellow senior Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif.) went 3 for 4 with three runs batted in as Felician University earned a 12-1 non-conference softball victory over Kutztown University on Sunday afternoon at Grand Park. The contest completed Felician's season-opening five-game weekend trip to the Snowbird Freeze-Out event.
Kutztown (5-4), playing as the home team, was the first on the scoreboard when junior Sara Keeny (Warminster, Pa.) led off with a double, moved up on a passed ball, and scored one out later on Jenna Lipowski's (Nanticoke, Pa.) groundout. But the Golden Falcons quickly broke the game open with six runs in the top of the second inning.
After an RBI single by Mia Montoya (Cypress, Calif.) and a run-scoring double from Jaimie Parisi (Hackensack, N.J.), Felician loaded the bases with one out. Roldan followed with a two-run double to right-center field. Following a pitching change, a passed ball allowed Isabella Bradian (Mount Royal, N.J.) to come home, and Steph Donah (Clark, N.J.) capped the rally with a run-scoring single.
Felician extended to an 8-2 lead on Parisi's two-run third-inning home run.
In the fifth, Roldan delivered a one-out RBI double, freshman C.J. Apacible (Long Beach, Calif.) drove a two-run single through the infield, and Donah scored Apacible with a double for the final margin. Owens (1-2) retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth to end the game. She struck out two batters and walked one in the complete-game effort.
Keeny obtained both hits off of Owens on the day. Parisi scored three times and drove in three runs, and Montoya and Donah both went 2 for 4.
Felician (1-4) is idle until a 10-game trip to Clermont, Fla., begins with contests against the College of Saint Rose and Northern State University on Friday, March 2.
