RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Angelica Gero of Freehold has been named the first head coach of women's lacrosse at Felician College, Felician director of athletics Ben "J.R." DiNallo announced today.
Women's lacrosse, a spring sport, will debut at Felician in 2015. It is one of three women's offerings that will be added to the Golden Falcons' varsity intercollegiate athletics program next academic year, joining bowling and outdoor track & field.
Gero is entering her first collegiate coaching position. She comes to Felician after three seasons with the girls' program at Colts Neck High School. She was the Cougars' varsity assistant in 2012 before ascending to the head coaching position for the last two years. Gero also works with the United Lacrosse travel program, based in Manasquan, and volunteers to coach 2nd-8th graders for Howell Township Recreation.
Gero was a four-year starter on defense for one of Felician's soon-to-be Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rivals, Georgian Court University, from 2007-10. She was a two-time first-team all-conference selection for the Lions, and her 2010 GCU squad won the CACC championship.
Gero earned a BS in natural science from Georgian Court in 2011. She is Open Water Certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, and recently spent six months as a field study intern for White Shark Africa in Mossel Bay, South Africa.
Felician competes as a member of NCAA Division II.
