LYNDHURST, N.J. – Felician University senior goalkeeper Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) made nine saves to mitigate her team's 21-9 shot disadvantage as the Golden Falcons played to a 0-0 draw with visiting Holy Family University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer action on Saturday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
The match featured the CACC's top two scorers. Both Holy Family sophomore Brianna Rock (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) (10 goals, two assists) and Felician junior Amanda Nowak (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) (9g 2a) played the entire 110 minutes. Rock got off a game-high seven shots, but was denied by Ademi on four occasions. Nowak came up empty on two attempts, including one on frame.
The Holy Family back line prevented the Golden Falcons from extensively testing Tiger keeper Taylor Walker (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown), who was making just her second start of the season. Only two of Felician's nine shots were on target.
Nowak was involved in both of Felician's most dangerous offensive opportunities. In the 59th minute, the hosts were able to string together a trio of passes, freeing Nowak just outside the top right corner of the 18-yard box. She sent a high shot which narrowly missed entering the top right of the goal, sailing just high.
In the third minute of overtime, a ball was sent down the right sideline to Nowak near the corner. Nowak found Danielle Stoll (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) making a run down the middle and put a low cross in the 8-yard box, but Stoll mishit the ball and it went wide left. Stoll led the Golden Falcons on the night with four shots.
Felician successfully defended 10 HFU corner kicks, including one in the 109th minute. Tiger 5-foot-9 junior Shannon Metzler (Erial, N.J./St. Joseph's) was a threat all night in that situation, as all four of her shot attempts came on headers off of her team's corners.
Ademi, whose nine saves were one short of a season high, earned her third solo shutout of the season and the sixth of her career.
The 0-0 draw was the first for Felician since September 9, 2014, against Queens (N.Y.) College, also in Lyndhurst.
Felician celebrated Senior Night on Saturday. Golden Falcon seniors Ademi, Carly Brantner (Shrewsbury, N.J./Eastern Christian), Azra Buljko (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) and Stephanie Hesse (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) were honored by Felician president Dr. Anne M. Prisco in a pre-game ceremony.
Felician concludes a five-game homestand when it entertains Post University on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. in Lyndhurst.
