James Pipkins II was named the permanent head coach of the Felician University women's track and field program in July 2018. He joined the Golden Falcons as a multi-events assistant in February 2016, and was promoted to interim head coach in March 2018, becoming the third coach in program history. Felician set eight school records during the spring 2018 campaign, finished eighth in the CACC Championship meet, and qualified and sent runners to the Penn Relays for the first time.
Pipkins relocated to New Jersey from Apple Valley, Minn., where he was an accomplished multi-sport coach with a record of maximizing athlete performance. He coached in all three athletic seasons at Apple Valley High School, serving as varsity defensive backs coach and head junior varsity coach in football, head freshman boys' basketball coach, and head sprint coach for boys' and girls' track & field. He was also the president and head coach of the REAL Track & Field club.
In October 2017, Pipkins was named Felician's first department-wide strength & conditioning coach, fulfulling an NCAA mandate.
Pipkins is the owner of Stride Performance Athletics, and spent the fall 2015 season as the varsity defensive backs coach at Harrison (N.J.) High. He is an NFPT-certified personal trainer, and owns Level I coaching certificiation from USA Track & Field.
Pipkins attended the University of Iowa and was a starter for the football team. He earned varsity letters from the Hawkeyes in 1987 and 1988. He resides in West New York, N.J., with his wife, Trisha. They have a daughter, Jaryn, and a son, James III "Trey". Trey Pipkins is a starter for the football team at the University of Sioux Falls.
