MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – West Chester University used a balanced offense and a strong service game to earn a 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-18) non-conference women's volleyball victory over Felician University on Friday evening at Pucillo Gymnasium. The match took place during Day 1 of the Marauder Clash, hosted by Millersville University.
West Chester junior setter Jillian Grammer (Center Valley, Pa.) amassed 38 assists and 10 digs while guiding her team to a .264 attack percentage. The Golden Rams improved to 8-0 on the season with the victory, their second of the day. Junior outside hitter Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif.) put down a team-high five kills for Felician (0-2).
The Golden Falcons were unable to grab a lead in either of the first two sets. In Set 1, West Chester was ahead 8-6 when it captured eight consecutive points to pull away. Karleigh Lutz (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) had three kills and a block in the run.
WCU extended a 6-4 Set 2 lead to 15-6. Felician scored four of the next five points, but the Golden Rams answered with a 5-1 run to put the set away.
Golden Falcon freshman Katie Asbery (Mililani, Hawaii) was involved in three consecutive blocks as her team erased a four-point Set three deficit to gain a 16-16 tie. WCU, however, recovered to earn the next three points, and went on to a 25-18 victory to end the match.
Junior Allie Duffy (Carlisle, Pa.) hit .611 with 11 kills and Lutz finished with 10 kills and six digs for the Golden Rams. Felician sophomore libero Lauren Mack (Valparaiso, Ind.) finished with 11 kills, and Asbery had two kills and four blocks.
West Chester accumulated 13 service aces against only four service errors.
The Golden Falcons complete play in the tournament on Saturday at 10 a.m. against host Millersville.
