MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Felician University baseball team surrendered 11 hits and six walks and left 11 runners on base during its 9-4 non-conference loss to host Barry University on Sunday afternoon at Feinbloom Field. Barry (5-3) earned a sweep of the teams' three-game weekend series.
Sophomore Anthony Condito (Nutley, N.J.) hit Felician's first home run of the season, a solo shot with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. Condito drove in two runs on the day.
Felician (0-3) dented the scoreboard first. A third-inning Jordan Folgers (Moriches, N.Y.) groundout plated L.T. Struble (Hammonton, N.J.), who led off with a single and advanced to third base on another hit. In the fourth, a pinch-hit RBI single by Danny Healey Jr. (Brookhaven, Pa.) gave the visitors a 2-0 edge. The Golden Falcons, however, left the bases loaded in the frame without scoring again.
The Buccaneers capitalized by taking the lead with three runs in the home half of the fourth. A one-out, two-run homer by Justin Lamazares (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) tied the score. Barry moved ahead later in the inning on a throwing error.
Barry pulled away by roughing up the Golden Falcon bullpen for four runs in the fifth. A two-run single by senior Deyvid Silva (Miami, Fla.) capped the rally.
Buccaneer leadoff man J.C. Garcia (Miami, Fla.) was on base five times, going 3 for 3 with two walks. Lamazares finished 2 for 3 with three RBI. Barry starting pitcher Pablo Arevalo (Miami, Fla.) (1-1) allowed two runs on six hits over five-plus innings for the win.
Struble and freshman catcher Jake Gilbert (Valrico, Fla.) picked up two hits apiece for the Golden Falcons.
Felician plays its first East Region opponent of 2019 on Thursday, when it faces Franklin Pierce University in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
