BELMONT, Calif. – The Felician University men's lacrosse team fell behind, 11-4, at halftime of an eventual 21-7 neutral-site non-conference loss to Colorado State University-Pueblo on Saturday afternoon at Koret Field on the campus of Notre Dame de Namur University.
Junior transfer Ausar Wright (Pemberton, N.J.) and sophomore James D'Albora (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored two goals each for Felician (0-4). Wright added five ground balls and a school-record five caused turnovers.
Senior Taylor Davis (Littleton, Colo.) paced CSU-Pueblo with six goals and one assist. The Thunderwolves (2-0) received three goals and three assists from sophomore Dante Buck (Farmington, Minn.)
CSU-Pueblo, which never trailed, exited the first quarter with a 4-2 lead. The Thunderwolves then took full control by tallying the first three goals of period two. With four minutes, 40 seconds, to play until halftime, a Jason Gusciora (Saddle Brook, N.J.) marker pulled the Golden Falcons to within 8-4. But Davis scored three times in the final 3 1/2 minutes of the second period.
The Thunderwolves registered the first three scores of period three and were never challenged thereafter. CSU-Pueblo amassed advantages of 59-25 in shots and 43-31 in ground balls. The Thunderwolves were also 22 of 26 in clear attempts while holding Felician to a 13 of 30 figure
Golden Falcon sophomore Jefferson Jacob (Staten Island, N.Y.) picked up a goal, an assist, three caused turnovers and a team-high six ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper Pat Hemmer (Staten Island, N.Y.) allowed 16 goals and made 13 saves in 52 minutes. Hemmer also picked up three ground balls.
Thunderwolf goalie Ethan Ferrie (Littleton, Colo.) earned the victory with seven saves.
The Golden Falcons next play at St. Thomas Aquinas College in non-league action on Mar. 20 at 4 p.m. in Sparkill, N.Y.
