LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician University men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College on Wednesday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Dominican (5-8, 3-4 CACC) scored with three minutes, 33 seconds, remaining in the first period, to carry a 2-0 edge into halftime. The Chargers then took full control with three goals in the first 23 minutes of period two, the final two in a span of 81 seconds.
Dominican sophomore midfielder Maximino Casares Martinez (Ciudad de Panama, Panama/Esceula Bella Vista) recorded two goals and two assists and senior teammate Jose Mendez (Jesup, Ga./Wayne County) also scored twice. The visitors received three assists from sophomore Ewan Gray (Middlesbrough, England/Queen Ethelburga's).
Dominican finished the day with advantages of 18-8 in shots and 7-3 in corner kicks. Sophomore Leo Yang (Seoul, South Korea/Queen of Peace [N.J.]) led Felician with three shots; Mendez and Casares Martinez got off four each for the Chargers.
Dominican senior goalkeeper Tyler Doll (St. Louis, Mo./Crossroads Prep) earned the shutout with four saves. Freshman Alex Ficarra (Phillipsburg, N.J./Notre Dame-Green Pond [Pa.]) stopped four shots for the Golden Falcons (2-9, 1-6).
Felician travels to Holy Family University for a 2:30 p.m. kick on Saturday before beginning a four-game homestand.
