LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician University men's soccer team was edged by the visiting College of Staten Island, 2-1, in non-conference action on Wednesday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Felician and CSI were meeting for the first time.

Redshirt sophomore forward Leo Yang (Seoul, South Korea/Queen of Peace [N.J.]) scored the Golden Falcon goal, his fourth of the season. Felician redshirt freshman goalkeeper Alex Ficarra (Phillipsburg, N.J./Notre Dame-Red Pond [Pa.]) was credited with eight saves.

Felician, however, was eventually done in by a header from Dolphin senior Philip Lefkowitz (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) with 33 seconds remaining in regulation time.

The Golden Falcons (3-12) scored first in the contest. A Felician throw-in was deflected by both teams before arriving at the feet of Yang, who launched from 35 yards away. The shot nipped a defender on the way up, causing a fortuitous drop under the crossbar with 15:42 left until halftime. Yang saw his free kick saved in the period's final minute, and the hosts entered the break with the 1-0 edge.

After the first 10 minutes of period two were uneventful, Felician found itself on the defensive. The Golden Falcons staved off a flurry of Dolphin shots in the 58th minute and Ficarra stopped a Lefkowitz offering in the 60th, but the CSI pressure eventually paid off. Carlos Montesinos (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) found freshman teammate Mohammedou Sow (New York, N.Y./Curtis) open deep inside the 18-yard box for a shot to the upper right of the net.

The Dolphins defended two Felician corner kick opportunities down the stretch. With the game clock winding down, CSI won possession and a charging Wilson Quintero (Medellin, Colombia/Martin Luther King Jr.) sent a high ball across the width of the box which found Lefkowitz for the winner header.

CSI completed its season with a record of 10-5-1. The Dolphins out-shot their hosts, 25-7.

Felician celebrates Senior Night on Saturday, honoring five seniors prior to its 8 p.m. match against Chestnut Hill College in Lyndhurst.
