CLERMONT, Fla. – A second-inning home run by junior first baseman Nicole Spiegelberg (Blauvelt, N.Y.) produced Felician University's only run in the Golden Falcons' 7-1 non-conference softball loss to Ashland University during the PFX Athletics Spring Games on Sunday morning at Legends Way Ballfields. Earlier on Sunday, Felician was dealt a 10-0, five-inning setback to Minnesota State University-Mankato.

The Golden Falcons (3-8) completed the third day of their six-day, 10-game spring break trip to Central Florida.

Minnesota State, the designated home team for its tilt against Felician, picked up 10 hits, including seven for extra bases, during its four offensive frames. After plating a run on an RBI double by Cori Kennedy (West Concord, Minn.) in the first, the Mavericks (6-5) used four hits, a walk, and two Felician errors to score six times in the second inning.

MSU received a two-run homer from Haylee Bridges (Lincoln, Neb.) in the third frame and a solo shot from Kennedy in the fourth for the final margin. Maverick sophomore pitcher Mackenzie Ward (Clive, Iowa) (3-5) was perfect through three innings before escaping a bases-loaded jam in the fourth.

Felician sophomore shortstop C.J. Apacible (Long Beach, Calif.) was 2 for 3. Redshirt freshman Hannah Hastings (Mankato, Minn.) doubled and homered for the Mavericks, who had defeated Saint Anselm College, the No. 1-ranked Division II team nationally, in their final game on Saturday.

The Golden Falcons were the home team for their second game on Sunday, and Spiegelberg's round-tripper, her third of the season, sliced a 2-0 Ashland edge in half. The Eagles pushed a run across in the third, and in the home portion of the inning, Felician put runners on first and second bases with one out. Ashland hurler Hannah Stroe (Macedonia, Ohio) induced a pair of groundouts, and never again did the Golden Falcons have multiple runners on base at the same time.

Ashland (4-1) scored twice in the fifth inning and twice more in the sixth to pull away. Stroe (2-1) went the distance on a six-hitter, striking out three, and Eagle junior shortstop Bree Gill (Creston, Ohio) was 3 for 4 with two RBI. Junior catcher Keelee Davis (Chula Vista, Calif.) went 2 for 3 for the Golden Falcons.

Felician returns to action on Tuesday with non-league games in Clermont against Northern State University and Saint Cloud State University.
