Spiegelberg, Chierchia Share Weekly CACC Softball Honors

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University senior Nicole Spiegelberg (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Co-Player of the Week for the period ending Mar. 8, the CACC announced today. Additionally, Felician freshman Vienna Chierchia (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) was chosen the league's Co-Rookie of the Week.

Spiegelberg wins or shares the CACC Player of the Week award for the second time this season and the fifth of her career. In eight starts last week, the 5-foot-7 first baseman hit .455 (10 for 22) and slugged 1.045. She produced four doubles and three home runs, scored five runs and drove in 11 as the Golden Falcons went 3-5.

Chierchia, a 5-foot-7 center fielder, started all eight games in either the No. 1 or No. 2 spot in the Golden Falcon lineup. She hit .385 with a .692 slugging percentage and scored five runs, coming up with three doubles, one triple and one homer.

In 14 games this season, Spiegelberg leads Felician with a .432 batting average, five doubles, five home runs and 13 runs batted in. She is a 2016 graduate of Tappan Zee High of Orangeburg, N.Y. Chierchia has also started all 14 games, and is hitting .326 with six runs scored. She is a 2019 product of Manalapan High.

Spiegelberg shared this week's Player of the Week award with Holy Family University sophomore Elaina Hansen. Chierchia was recognized alongside Kyra Wiens of Dominican (N.Y.) College.

Also on Monday, Felician senior baseball pitcher Alex Schwartz (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) was chosen for that sport's CACC Weekly Honor Roll.

Felician softball (4-10, 0-0) is guided by first-year head coach Herb Melendez of Levittown, N.Y. The Golden Falcons are next in action this afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader against Molloy College in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
