ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Felician University women's basketball team concluded play in the four-team, two-day Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament with a 60-38 non-conference loss to the College of Saint Rose on Sunday afternoon on the Hennessy Center's Coach Baxter Court. The tournament was hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College.
Felician (1-2) was completing a season-opening stretch of three games in four days. Freshman swing player Briana Lee (Jersey City, N.J.) led the Golden Falcons with 17 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Saint Rose (3-1) held Felician to 21-percent shooting from the floor and helped force 23 Golden Falcon turnovers. Felician never led in the game, falling behind, 7-0, after 4 ½ minutes, and 15-5 at the end of one period.
A Shamim Wambere (Ann Arbor, Mich.) free throw restored the 10-point edge for the Golden Knights with 6:04 to play until halftime. Neither team scored for nearly the next four minutes of game time. Saint Rose eventually trudged its way to a 28-14 halftime lead.
Saint Rose took full control by holding the Golden Falcons without a field goal in the third quarter. Felician went 0 for 10 with seven turnovers in the period, was outscored 20-5, and outrebounded, 15-5. The Golden Knights exited the third with their largest spread of the day, 48-19. Felician sliced the deficit only as low as 20 during the fourth.
Saint Rose junior forward Nina Fedullo (Amsterdam, N.Y.) (7-9 FG) recorded 16 points and 18 rebounds as the Golden Knights earned the edge on the boards, 54-30. Senior teammate Leah Dollard (Albany, N.Y.) scored 14 points and Wambere finished with 10. Freshman Tiara Mahorn (Irvington, N.J.) totaled six points and five rebounds for Felician.
The Golden Falcons play another non-league road game on Thursday, a 7 p.m. start against Pace University.
