LYNDHURST, N.J. – Sophomore midfielder Amanda Nowak (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) recorded two goals and an assist and sophomore forward Magdalena Brodka (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton) scored her first collegiate goal as the Felician College women's soccer team picked up a 6-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Nyack College on Tuesday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Felician (4-3, 4-1 CACC) has won three consecutive matches.
The Golden Falcons posted their strongest offensive day of the season, and scored their most goals since a 6-0 win over Concordia (N.Y.) College on Sept. 6, 2012. Sophomore forward Katina Kozlowski (Milton, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), senior midfielder Marissa Nieves (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) and sophomore midfielder Danielle Stoll (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) each had a goal and an assist for Felician.
Felician took a 2-0 lead into halftime by bookending the opening period with scores. Kozlowski put the hosts on the scoreboard four minutes, 40 seconds, into the match, when she finished from in front after Stoll left a ball for her. Opportunities were scarce for both teams until 4:10 remained in the half. Kozlowski deflected a Madison Farley (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) corner kick to the head of Nieves, who headed the ball inside the left post.
Nowak assisted on a Stoll goal just 29 seconds into period two which allowed Felician to take full control. Nieves drew Nyack sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Jansen (Lafayette, N.J.) off her line in the 54th minute, then set up Brodka for a tap-in. Nowak completed the scoring by netting two goals in a span of six minutes. Azra Buljko (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) assisted on Nowak's first score in the 73rd minute, and Stephanie Hesse (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) freed Nowak down the right flank for the game's final score with 11:14 remaining.
Felician led in shots on the day, 16-8, with Nowak taking a team-high five. Krystal Vega (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) topped the Warriors (1-6-1, 1-3) with three shots. Jansen was credited with four saves in 79 minutes.
Junior Mikaylah Davies (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) and freshman Sami Lederle (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) played all 90 minutes on defense to help key the Felician shutout. The clean sheet was shared by Golden Falcon goalkeepers Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Community) (79 minutes, three saves) and Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) (11 minutes, one save).
Felician travels to Georgian Court University on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff in Lakewood, N.J. GCU is the only unbeaten, untied team in CACC play.
