GALLOWAY, N.J. – A pair of freshman sprinters stood out for the Felician University women's track & field team during trip to the Osprey Open, hosted by Stockton University on Saturday at G. Larry James Stadium. Shahania Odies (Vauxhall, N.J./Benedictine Academy) was Felician's only scorer in the meet, and fellow rookie Aasiyah Alston (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) set the Golden Falcons' record in the 200-meter dash.
Odies competed in a team-high four events, and produced her best showing in the 100-meter hurdles. She turned in a time of 17.43 seconds and placed fifth out of 16 entrants, providing all four of Felician's points in the meet. Odies also ran the 100-meter dash (14.13, 22nd/37) and a leg for both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams.
Alston was the only other Golden Falcon to finish in the top 10 individually in an event at the 27-team meet. She was 10th out of 42 runners in the 200 with a school-record time of 26.61 seconds. The previous mark of 29.82 was set by Giorvania LeRouge nearly two years earlier.
Several returning Felician throwers established personal bests. Senior Heather Androvich (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) did so in the shot put (8.64 meters, 24th/35), and classmate Kristen Keller (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) recorded her career-best throw in the discus (24.07 meters, 27th/35). Sophomore Anna Piedel (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) PR'ed in both the shot (8.41 meters, 25th) and the disc (20.57 meters,30th).
Odies' four points allowed Felician to appear in the team standings in 24th place, one point back of Gallaudet University in 23rd. Stockton easily won the meet with 234 points, well ahead of the 55.5 of runner-up Caldwell University. The Golden Falcons were one of six Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference members to attend.
Stockton also won the men's competition by nearly 85 points over second-place Rowan College at Gloucester County.
Felician is next scheduled to compete in the All-American Meet, hosted by East Stroudsburg University, on April 21.
