ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Felician University senior outside hitter Raamiah Edwards (Bloomfield, N.J.) hit .462 and led all players with 15 kills as the Golden Falcons defeated host Dominican (N.Y.) College, 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 26-24) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball action on Wednesday night at the Hennessy Center.

With 37 kills and 12 errors in 76 attempts, Felician (2-7, 1-0 CACC) turned in a team attack percentage of .329 for the night. That is the highest single-match figure in head coach John Chang's six-year tenure and the third-best in the 16-year history of the Golden Falcon program.

The Golden Falcons started quickly, winning seven consecutive rallies to flip an early 4-2 deficit into a five-point lead. The visitors doubled their edge to 20-10, yielded a side-out on a service error, then completed the Set 1 with five more points in a row. Felician sophomore outside Maddie Sloan (West Caldwell, N.J.) put down six first-set kills.

Felician never trailed in Set 2. The Golden Falcons moved ahead, 10-5, then maintained a margin of 3 to 5 points for much of the set. Ahead, 20-16, Felician finally pulled away, capturing the final five rallies. Freshman setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) punctuated the win with a set-ending ace.

The third set was tied on nine occasions. Felician recovered from a 21-17 deficit to set up a pair of match points, 24-22, following two Edwards kills. The Chargers saved them both, using kills from Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Emmalyn LaPier (Endicott, N.Y.) to stay alive in the match. But Tabatha Wagner (Wabash, Ind.) followed with a kill to return service to Felician, and Edwards put the ball down to end the next rally and deliver the victory to the Golden Falcons.

Martinez expertly guided the Felician offense, finishing with 24 assists and seven digs to go along with three errorless kills and two aces. Fellow rookie Wagner totaled eight kills, and Sloan hit .500 with seven kills and eight digs.

Knopf accumulated five kills and six digs for Dominican (0-5, 0-1).

Felician won its CACC opener for just the third time ever, and the first since 2010.

Felician departs for Springfield, Mass., on Thursday night to participate in its third consecutive four-match weekend tournament. The Golden Falcons will play twice each on Friday and Saturday in the International Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational, hosted by American International College.
