NYACK, N.Y. – The Felician University women's volleyball team set a program record with its fifth consecutive victory on Thursday night, edging host Nyack College, 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 25-27, 25-23), in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at Bowman Gymnasium.
Sophomore libero Sierra Gallagher (Honolulu, Hawaii), the two-time defending CACC Defensive Player of the Week, established a Felician single-match record with 38 digs. Gallagher added five assists and three service aces.
The Golden Falcons (8-12, 6-1 CACC) extended the best league start their history and regained sole possession of first place in the CACC North Division. At 6-1, Felician is a game ahead of both Bloomfield College and Caldwell University.
Felician received 16 kills and 15 digs from senior outside hitter Raamiah Edwards (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield). Senior opposite hitter Kali Vodrazka (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) hit .312 with 10 kills. The Golden Falcons produced a season-high 11 aces and survived allowing 13.
Set 1 was tied, 14-14, before the Golden Falcons scored the next three points to move ahead to stay. Still trailing by that margin, 20-17, Nyack called timeout, but then erred on a pair of attacks for a five-point deficit and Felician quickly closed out the set.
The match turned on Felician's Set 2 victory. Trailing, 21-19, the visitors captured six of the final seven rallies. The Golden Falcons used two Maddie Sloan (Caldwell, N.J.) aces, plus a kill and a block from Jazlyn Pipkins (Paris, Texas), in that spurt to take a 2-0 lead.
Set 3 was tied on six occasions in the late stages. The Warriors saved two match points and emerged victorious with kills from three different players on the final three points. Felician recovered from an early 13-8 Set 4 deficit to lead, 20-18. At 20-20, the Golden Falcons returned to the verge of victory with four consecutive points. Nyack saved two more match points, but a missed serve handed the win to Felician exactly two hours after the start of play.
Felican junior Katie Asbery (Mililani, Hawaii) recorded a .391 attack percentage with nine kills, five blocks and three aces. Sloan finished with seven kills and 16 digs. Golden Falcon freshman setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) came up with 39 assists and a season-high four blocks.
